Throughout our library of Notion guides, we've always mentioned how Notion sometimes tends to give you a pretty long URL, and that's one of the few downsides of Notion - that they generate URLs that are hard to remember.
Well, none of that anymore! With your Notion-built website, you can add what's called a 'Pretty URL'. A pretty URL is basically a link that's customised on your preference.
Here's an example of Notion links:
- The default: "notion.so/Design-Inspo-b380587f28f34a109b4a649946148548";
- The pretty: "yourwebsite.com/design-inspo".
See the difference? That's what a Notion custom URL does. The best part is that you can customise it to whatever you want!
So, in this tutorial, we're going to teach you all there is to know about adding a custom URL to your Notion website. Let's get at it!
How to change pretty URLs in Notion
To get rid of the long Notion URLs, you have to go to your website's dashboard and select the "Pages" menu. Then, select any page and hit "Page & Pretty URL", and what you want your link to look like.
That's the short way of saying things. Stay with us if you want to see the step-by-step tutorial of changing boring to pretty Notion links!
1. Select a page
First of all, you have to go to your Website's Dashboard, and select one of your websites. Once you've selected the website, go to the "Pages" menu on the left side of the screen.
What you're looking at is a basically a map with all of the pages on a Notion-built website. There, you'll see the list of your pages - make sure to select the one that you want to add a Notion custom URL on.
2. Type the custom URL
After clicking on the page that you want to change the URL of, you'll see a new window popping up on your screen, and it'll automatically be the 'Pages & pretty URL' section.
Finally, make sure to type your Notion page's URL. Lastly, please double-check that you've hit the "Save Changes" button.
Up next, if you go to your public website, you'll see how your page has a pretty, short URL.
Congrats! You've just changed that long Notion URL into a shorter one. It wasn't so hard, right?
How do I shorten a URL Notion?
To make smaller Notion URLs, you have to go to your website's dashboard, select the "Pages" section, and pick your page. Lastly, type your URL and that's it!
